Unity Peacemaker

PREC have worked in partnerhsip with Peterborough City Council over the past three years on harnessing the work that young people do in and for the city. PREC's partnerhship with the Children and Young People's Service (CYPS) has been cemented over this time, during which the Unity project has been established and won regional as well as national accolades.

Starting as Unity Peacemakers providing opportunities to reduce racism and youth conflict, the project now encompasses Unity Football with 60 young people attending the trials and Unity Music, with over 150 young people attending the weekly city centre MC/DJ night. Each of these activities has become well established and is supplemented with additional work in Unity Days.

All this work was developed through facing the disorder in the city which followed the murder of Ross Parker, which galvanised young people from across races and cultures to proclaim that this should not happen here again. Regardless of what their colour or ethnic origin, the work being done is a compliment to the contribution made by young people across the city.

Unfortunately we have been unable to secure funding to continue partnering this fantastic work but continue to search out funding streams.
